Sparky Potter Design Group

Sparky Potter and Wood & Wood’s team of craft people provide design, fabrication and installation of signs and custom products.  We firmly believe that a product succeeds or fails “by design.”  To ensure the highest percentage of success for an investment, we design by collaboration with the client being at the leading edge. Everyone working at Wood & Wood takes part in the design process, and often times the client brings in a design firm as an addition to this team. Whether Wood & Wood initiates or inherits the design, we pursue solutions that are appropriate, budget conscious and memorable.

Our design process usually includes researching the natural materials and architectural history of the region.  Research is followed by rough sketches, scale drawings, color renderings, full-size renderings and prototypes.  We believe that samples and prototypes are critical in the design process to avoid mistakes or misunderstandings in fabrication. We always try to keep design costs reasonable so that more funds can be spent on the final product.

Sparky’s interest in architectural and natural history is ideally suited to solving design challenges. For instance, at Stratton Mountain Resort, VT, Sparky succeeded in joining a Bavarian theme to a Vermont theme, right down to his clock tower design.  At Amelia Island Plantation, FL, Sparky tied a migratory bird theme to a directional sign system. The successful bird sanctuary theme now forms the base of their entire marketing campaign for the resort.

Over the years, Wood & Wood has developed an exterior sign manual for Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream from which Wood & Wood now assists the Ben & Jerry’s art department in designing all national storefronts — from historic districts to shopping malls.  In 2003, Moonlight Basin Resort, Big Sky, MT, enlisted Sparky as lead designer using his concept for Montana ghost towns as the inspiration for the design vernacular.  The New Frontier brand is used in both interior and exterior resort signage.

Recently Jung Brannen Associates, Inc., a Boston, MA, architect company, contracted Wood & Wood to develop the design and signage site plan for the exterior and interior sign systems for the World Trade Centre Residence that will be located next to the Dubai World Trade Centre in Untied Arab Emirates. The building’s regal appeal inspired Sparky to incorporate stainless steel and painted aluminum into his prototypes.  Our design scope included elevation drawings, shop drawings, site plans and bid documents for over 1000 signs.

Wood & Wood looks forward to assisting you with design and fabrication of your sign(s) and millwork needs.
