About Us
In 1972, when other sign companies were promoting the use of metal and plastic, Wood & Wood Signs was one of a few sign companies in New England promoting the use of wood. Sparky Potter and his wife Peggy saw an opportunity to carve a niche by focusing on a high degree of art and “Old World” craftsmanship, thus establishing the benchmark for a new industry.
Since that time, numerous destination resorts, hotels, college campuses, living communities, towns, museums, theme parks and restaurants have engaged Wood & Wood to design and develop distinctive signs and sign systems. A founding father of the current sign culture, Sparky has taken art to the public with distinctive style over the years. It has been Sparky and Peggy’s pioneering spirit, artistic flare and creative process that has cultivated such an impressive client base at Wood & Wood.
For a more extensive look at Wood & Woods history, check out our book:
Wood & Wood Celebrating the Art of Sign Design.
But of course, Wood & Wood’s most valuable asset is our crew. With 10 full-time and part-time Vermont craftspeople and our large group of subcontractors. We LOVE what we do!
Our building, located in the Mad River Valley, features a paint shop with spray booth, 18-foot ceilings in the woodworking shop, a design studio and sample showroom.
Testimonials
“From a signage perspective, you’ve done a great job helping us translate our new shield logo into a comprehensive package, one that conforms to the variety of municipal, landlord and developer design criteria we typically encounter. You’ve also done a great job fabricating signs for our Franchisees and getting them out the door in a timely fashion. I know that we’ve had some short lead times, and you did a great job responding to shifting priorities to meet opening schedules.
In addition, the work you’ve done developing our interior graphics has been outstanding. The shop at Mohegan Sun Casino set a new standard for shop build outs and has generated a great deal of interest (and envy) by many Franchisees. I’m eager to review your research on mass production costs to help us introduce these elements into more shops.
I look forward to working with you in the upcoming year to build upon the excellent work of this year.”

“Thank you again for a job well done. Of the many vendors who have worked with us on this project (Universal Studios), Wood & Wood distinguished itself as one of the best. Your preparedness, firm commitment to deadlines and ultimate product quality has been greatly appreciated by those of us involved in this project.
The special effort you and your staff gave to this project made my job much easier. I look forward to working with you again soon.”

“It is with great pleasure that I write a letter of recommendation for Wood & Wood Sign Systems, the signage fabricator and installer for the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center, Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Wood & Wood has demonstrated a strong work ethic, while showing an artistically creative approach to the signage needs of our facility.
Those of us involved in the construction of the Steamboat Grand project have come to greatly value and appreciate the talent and abilities of Sparky Potter and the entire staff at Wood & Wood. I found everyone at Wood & Wood willing to perform within a teamwork environment while attending to the cost and scheduling needs of American Skiing Company Resort Properties.”
